Harbor Home Healthcare provides ongoing training to all staff as required by Virginia regulations. To access the training portal, contact the Harbor office and a team member will provide you with your login credentials and instructions.

Training Requirements for Home Attendants
Virginia law establishes specific qualifications and ongoing training requirements for all home attendants providing personal care services. Harbor is committed to meeting and exceeding these standards to ensure safe, consistent, high-quality care.
Qualification Pathways
Home attendants must meet at least one of the following pathways under Virginia regulation:
- Nursing education — Completion of an approved nursing education program.
- Nurse aide education — Completion of an approved nurse aide education program or current CNA certification.
- Nursing student pathway — Current nursing student with qualifying clinical experience.
- Competency evaluation — Successful completion of a competency evaluation as defined by Virginia regulations.
- PCA curriculum — Completion of an approved Personal Care Aide curriculum (for personal care services only).
Ongoing Training Requirements
Under 12VAC5-381-360.G, the following ongoing requirements apply:
- 12 hours annually — Home attendants providing personal care must receive at least 12 hours of in-service training and education each year.
- On-site supervision — In-service training may be conducted in conjunction with on-site supervision visits.
- Care plan review — The plan of services must be reviewed with each assigned home attendant before delivering services.
- RN supervision — Supervision of services is provided as often as necessary, not to exceed 90 days between visits.
- Nursing availability — An RN or LPN must be available during all hours personal care services are being provided.
- Documentation — All services delivered must be documented in the client's record.
