Help with daily living

Support for the things you do every day.

Personal Care combines hands-on assistance with respect for what you prefer to do yourself. The tasks provided depend on assessed needs and your written care plan.

Bathing & grooming

Assistance with bathing, washing and personal grooming, with attention to privacy, comfort and the routines you prefer.

Dressing & toileting

Help getting dressed and managing toileting and personal hygiene. Support is provided respectfully, at a pace that works for you.

Mobility & positioning

Assistance with walking, changing position and transfers when assessed as appropriate. The plan identifies the help and equipment needed for assigned tasks.

Meals & hydration

Help preparing meals and supporting agreed eating and drinking routines, following the preferences and instructions included in the care plan.

Light household tasks

Help with laundry, dishes and light housekeeping related to the client’s daily care. Personal Care focuses on everyday support at home.

Medications & conversation

Caregivers can remind you and help you take your own medications, such as bringing them to you and opening containers. They don’t decide doses, give injections or administer medications. Conversation during care visits and support for familiar activities can be included in the plan.

Personal Care is non-medical. Harbor caregivers do not provide skilled nursing, give injections or perform wound care. If you need medical treatment or therapy, those services must be arranged with an appropriate healthcare provider.

Is Personal Care a fit?

Help that supports your independence.

You do not have to wait until every daily task becomes difficult to ask about support. Personal Care may be helpful when:

Daily routines take more effort

An older adult wants to remain at home but needs help with bathing, dressing, meals or moving around.

An adult needs ongoing assistance

A disability or health condition makes daily tasks harder. Harbor discusses the non-medical support needed and whether it can be provided appropriately.

Family help needs extra support

A family member provides much of the care and needs regular assistance with everyday tasks. If the main need is a planned break, explore Respite Care.

Your first conversation helps Harbor understand your situation and discuss service fit. Availability is confirmed for your location and requested schedule.

Care built around you

Your preferences shape the plan.

There is no standard week that fits every household. Harbor plans care around the help you need, the times it matters most and what makes home feel like home.

Share what matters

Tell us which routines have become harder, who already helps and when support would make a difference. We also discuss language, cultural preferences, privacy and how you want family involved.

Agree on the care

We assess needs and develop a written plan describing the tasks, assistance and visit schedule. Payment arrangements, any coverage authorization and caregiver availability are confirmed before care begins.

Review as needs change

Caregivers follow the agreed plan and report changes they notice. Let Harbor know if your needs, preferences or schedule change so the plan can be reviewed with you.

Before you get started

Your Personal Care questions, answered.

Can we request help at specific times?

Yes. Tell Harbor when assistance would be most useful, such as getting ready in the morning or preparing a meal. We discuss the visit schedule and confirm what is available. Hours and tasks also depend on the care plan and any coverage authorization.

How much does Personal Care cost?

Cost depends on the services and schedule agreed for your care. Harbor explains private-pay rates and terms in writing before services begin. Ask about the hours you are considering so we can discuss an appropriate arrangement.

What payment options are available?

Options include private pay, applicable long-term care insurance benefits and authorized Cardinal Care services. Insurance benefits depend on your policy; Cardinal Care requires applicable eligibility and health plan approval. Explore payment and coverage options.

How soon can care begin?

Harbor discusses your requested start date during the first conversation. Care begins once assessment and planning, payment or coverage approval, and caregiver availability are confirmed. A request does not reserve a start date.

What is the difference between Personal Care and home health?

Personal Care supports daily living through non-medical assistance. Home health involves healthcare services such as nursing or therapy. Harbor’s Personal Care service does not replace medical treatment or clinical care.

What if we need more help later?

Contact Harbor when routines, care needs or family availability change. We review the plan with you and discuss what adjustments are appropriate. Changes to hours may depend on staffing and any required coverage approval.

What would make your day easier?

Tell us a little about the support you are looking for. Harbor will follow up to discuss Personal Care, your location, scheduling and ways to pay. You do not need every answer or supporting documents for your first inquiry.
